Confessions of a Guitar Hero

So I had a long day at work today. Our kids took a field trip to Auburn's campus for the AU Explorer festivities It was a beautiful day outside and the kids had a great time, and I really enjoyed myself too. Some of you may know, but, for those of you who do not- field trip days are exhausting. But this one was more exhausting than ever. We walked with our kids from Drake Middle to Auburn's campus; it is really not that far, but just exhausting. I just kept thinking what if a kid trips and falls in the road? Will I have enough time to dive and knock them out of the way of the car? Anyways, thoughts like this can exhaust a person. But, all went well, no one was hit by a car, and we all lived happily ever after.

So after work, I drove to the soccer complex only to wait in a lightening storm for 20 minutes and cancel practice. After stopping at Target and picking up a few things, I headed home to crash hard.

I fed the dogs, started some laundry, and headed to the couch to go to bed. I turned on Rock of Love II, because I only watch the classy shows, and started to drift off to sleep. Suddenly, I look up and I have an urge to rock out. I stood up and that was the end of relaxation...it was Guitar Hero time.
I have a serious problem with guitar hero. I love playing this freaking game! It is so awesome. I have mastered the Easy level and I am trying to move on to Medium, but it is not going well. My favorite song to play is "Mississippi Queen" and Bill and I love to play "Even Flow" together in our band, "The Fab Fergusons." Some may say extremely gay; but I say quality time spent together as newlyweds.
Although I missed out on my relaxing evening of Brett Micheals and snoozing, it was totally worth it to get another stellar, 5 star performance to "Slow Ride!"

What I was doing 10 years ago...
I was an 8th grader at Challenger Middle School, and I owned that place. Of course I thought I was IT, because I was in 8th grade. Little did I know there was a whole new world or peer pressure and bad decisions waiting for me in high school. Just to be clear, 8th grade was 2 years after my mascot days were over, I was WAY too cool for that.

5 Things on my To-do list...
1. Laundry- we are at overflow
2. Go to the freaking grocery store-I have not been in about 4 weeks!
3. Finish my quilt for Kate- Okay so I got this brilliant idea to make a quilt for my precious niece, Kate. Sounds like a great idea right? Well I started the quilt when I found out Kim was pregnant, I am no where close to being done and Kate is now 18 months old. I guess I will give it to her at high school graduation. I hope the carebears will still be cool then.
4. Go to the bank- I need to deposit birthday moola
5. Take our two week overdue movie back to Movie Gallery- see this is why we need Netflix.

Snacks I enjoy...
1. Garden Salsa Sun Chips
2. Grande Peppermint Mocha (some may say this is not a snack, but I would definitely disagree)
3. Cheese nip 100 calorie packs
4. MILANO COOKIES- sorry I got excited about that one
5. Strawberry cake with strawberry icing
Katie, I am totally with you on the unhealthy snacks. At least we did not have to put the amount of the snack we consume:)
Things I would do if I were a billionaire...
1. Open up my own doggy hotel. I would call it "Radly's Roost" and it would have the best accomodations for dogs. Full running course, pool, chew toys and rawhides for miles, every room is furnished with a down comforter bed, TV, filtered water, food disepener, fan, excellent lighting, and as many toys as their hearts desire.
2. I would buy a ton of land and open up my own shelter for homeless dogs/abused animals. Nothing breaks my heart more than to see an animal get mistreated. This land would be right next to Radly's Roost
3. Put a sufficient amount away for kid's college.
4. Buy the huge, white house for sale on Hamilton Road in Auburn and live happily ever after
5. Donate the amount of money needed to finish the soccer complex on Wire Road. Oh but of course it would have to be named after something dealing with Ferguson.
5 Bad Habits I Have...
1. Picking- I am totally with you there Katie.
2. Gossiping- enough said.
3. Being WAY WAY WAY too competitive- Hey if you love me you love me for all of my flaws:)
4. Starbucks- this is one of those times where it tastes too good to even care about being so bad.
5. Eating out way too much! Brooke & Shealy I told you I need to read the budgeting book, I am taking Bill to the bank with my Starbucks and Subway!
6. Always thinking I left the straightner on- even though it is always off. I worry so much I have had Bill drive back out to Opelika to check. He even sent one of his friends one time because he had class and could not go!! Sorry I had to add this 6th one it is the worst!
5 Places I have lived...
1. 13018 Maebeth Drive Huntsville, Alabama
2. 2706 Gaines Road Huntsville, Alabama
3. 420 Mary Lane Auburn Alabama
4. 518 N. Ross Street
5. In my beautiful home in Opelika with my wonderful husband Billiard.
5 Jobs I have had...
1. Fazolis (drive thru and front counter. My first day of work someone stole money out of my purse. My second week of work I got someone fired for looking at me the wrong way, it was a great environment!)
2. Atlanta Bread Company (They did not trust me a whole lot here so I was just in charge of soup. The best part was I could say, "NO SOUP FOR YOU!")
3. Soccer Camps (more than you would ever like to know)
4. Assistant Director of Auburn Thunder Soccer Club- I also coach two teams in the club
5. 6th grade teacher at Drake ( please refer to the "I love me job" posting:)

Time for a Change

So, I got home from bible study tonight, started dinner, and was cooking when Bill walked in with an upset look on his face. He said, "You will not believe what someone told me today!" All I could think of was, what went wrong at school today? So I asked him if everything was ok, and he said, "No, Steve told me the worst thing today." Now for those of you who do not know, Steve is Bill's major professor and an awesome guy so Bill takes everything he says to heart. Steve told Bill

"Man, your hair is so long, you are starting to look like a hippie!"

Now, if there is something that Bill hates, it is a hippy. He just has this horrible outlook on all hippies. I don't know how else to put it- BILL HATES HIPPIES!!! Calling Bill a hippie is like twisting his soul (okay I am being way too overdramatic, but I want you all to understand the severity of this). I think the rest of the evenings events can best be expressed through pictures...
Before- Bill knows he is making the right decision!

Jenny is not too sure!

The babies are very excited about daddy's haircut, note the same side head tilt- it's a sure sign they are pumped about something.

You may laugh, but 5 years ago, Bill would have kept this do. (During)

After, and he never looked better. Dang my husband is sexy!

Of course Bill is concerned he cut it too close and that his head it too white- but at least no one will call him a hippie!

Watch out Yearbook...here I come!

Well, I got some really exciting news last week at work. First of all, my previous mentor, Mr. Barlow ( the teacher I interned with) has been promoted to the assistant principal of our school. So, he was in charge of the yearbook and as soon as I heard he was promoted I asked him what was going to happen with it next year. He did not know who was going to take it, so I willingly volunteered. I know this sounds like a job you would not volunteer for; but I am so stoked. I mean I love going back and looking at all of my old yearbooks, all the way back to elementary school. They are such milemarkers in every kid's journey through adolescence. To think that I am going to be working on something that a child can look back on twenty years from now and say, "What the heck was I thinking on picture day??!!!" truly touches my heart:)

On that note, I thought I would leave you all with some old school yearbook signings.

L.Y.L.A.S- (Love you like a sis, still popular amongst 6th graders. )
2 cute
2 be
4 gotten (This one is for all of your mathematicians.)
I bet I am the first one to sign your crack. Then the person signed the crack of your yearbook.(This was always done by the guy who was trying to be real cute, but ended up looking like a creep).
Remember the city
Remember the town
Remember the girl
Who wrote upside down (real catchy, oh and the smartie wrote upside down- a real treat to read.)
I auto cry
I auto laugh
I auto sign
My autograph
(Man we were sharp)
Well, that is all I can think of for now. I think I have called myself out enough for being a huge dork. If you can think of any others please let me know.

I LOVE MY JOB!

The most recent pep rally. I think I won head cheerleader!!!

Seriously, I challenge everyone to come up with a job where you can: talk to intriguing (crazy, hilarious, inappropriate, tired) 6th graders all day, watch Full House after pep rallies, paint your entire face yellow and brown (and it's normal), have a diet coke accessible throughout the entire day (with 55 cents of course), order take out from Cup and Saucer (if you have not had it, get it immediately), chat with your blog buddies during planning, walk out of your room to three hilarious girls who talk about everything from Brittany Spears to IBS, receive peppermint patties for properly administering SATs, have E TV readily available to watch when we come to school after hours, learn words like "smarticile" "awesomenessest" "cooliousnesome," eat the best vanilla cake with white icing and sprinkles EVER, get to wear hot pink leopard print slippers when your feet hurt, vent to your kids about expensive power bills, talk to the kids about, "I promise I played soccer at Auburn, look at the poster!" convince the kids I was not born as Jenny Ferguson-I once had another last name, sit in a desk pretending to sleep next to a student who is really asleep, and love getting up for work everyday.

I am not going to say there are days where I wish I would have just stayed in bed; but I never knew the working world could be so satisfying.

As some of you know, not everyone, I come up with the cheers for the Leopard team at Drake. Of course I cannot come up with something as lame as:

"Rah Rah Ree Kick them in the knee, Rah Rah rass, kick them in the other knee!"

I have to let my kids know I am with it, I'm hip, I'm in with the latest hits. So our big cheer this year was to the hit single "Soulja Boy" (no not soldier boy, I was already called out on that). Our cheer goes a little something like this:

Awwww….RULE
Leopards all up in this school
Watch us rock it
Watch us rule
Throw our spots up in your face
Then Superman this place
Now watch us rule
(crank those Leopard spots)
Rule
(crank those Leopard spots)
Rule
(crank those Leopard spots)
Rule

(crank those Leopard spots)
REPEAT

Leoparrrrrrrrds Rule!

Of course the kids cannot just sit there and say the cheer, they must dance along too. I am not talking about po dunk square dancing, the kids say they "get down!"

You may ask yourself, "Jenny, why are you publishing such a random post?" Well I will have to tell you because everyone needs to understand the severity and intensity I associate with pep rallies. I was thinking about it today, what other competitiveness do I still hang on to in my life. I mean I can challenge a random car at a stop light for a drag race down Gay Street, but I prefer to express myself in pep rallies. I cannot tell you how much fun it is. Some people do not get very into pep rallies, but I am crazy about them. I think it is that little eagle mascot still living deep down inside of me. Bill says, " This just shows how stable personality traits are."...DORK (love you baby). So if you see me going to the bank with reminants of yellow paint on my cheek, do not look at my strange, just know that I just got done dancing the "Soulja Boy" with a bunch of 12 year olds.
